Beautifully crafted maps, scenes and characters inspired by mid-century retro illustration from Bristol-based illustrator Owen Gatley.
Working from his studio in Bristol, UK, Owen Gatley spends his days creating retro-inspired illustrations reminiscent of mid-century hand-painted billboards and magazine spreads. The multi-faceted illustrator is as skilled at detailed crowd scenes and character design as he is at beautiful, intricate maps full of charming details and observations of modern life. Despite his work being easily adaptable, Owen has a soft spot for editorial work. “I like editorial work as I enjoy the quick turnaround, and find it rewarding seeing my illustrations in print,” Owen says. “But I equally enjoy working on larger jobs that allow more time for you to really get stuck into something. I also like to incorporate typography in my work and would love to do more packaging design.”
