“Rune Fisker's chaotic illustrations use visual trickery to create truly captivating scenarios.”

Those who have grown up with any relationship to early video games or sci-fi films will find Danish illustrator Rune Fisker’s work immediately arresting. Strangely, young Rune wasn’t much of a gamer but was drawn to the aesthetics of the worlds within the games. “I did play video games, but I was never a hardcore gamer,” he recalls. “I remember being fascinated with the world-building of early video games and the crude graphics where you had to use your imagination to make sense of what you saw on the screen.” This early inspiration has resulted in a unique core style, which Rune describes rather eloquently as: “Slow-motion chaos, with a pinch of the surreal.” His intense, detailed works are perspective-shifting, energetic compositions filled with satisfying symmetry and enough fantastical mysteries to keep you looking repeatedly, finding new elements or easter eggs within each image. Rune creates imagery for tech and editorial clients while running his animation company, Benny Box, with his brother Esben. In the future, Rune is keen to try his hand at VR. “It would be fun to take my illustrations into a 3D universe,” he says.
