Sami Saramäki is a Finnish illustrator crafting vast, gleaming cities and lush landscapes rich with detail and always with a large dollop of spirited playfulness. “I like to experiment with different techniques and do detail-rich illustrations,” says Sami. “I’m very interested in lights and shadows and forms and surfaces. I love to combine typography with illustration, and I'll do that whenever possible! My style is “semi-realistic,” but I mostly like to do a bit more abstract stuff than full realism.” A perfect illustrator to commission for highly polished, otherworldly imagery. “Editorial commissions give me the most freedom. I love it when I can check what the context is and then decide what would be the best approach. In my opinion, this is how I do my best work.”
